East Meets West

Meet Sundaram Tagore, renowned New York-based art historian, gallerist and award-winning director, who’s made a film that’s captured the essence of what it’s like to be a diasporic individual.

Yes, you guessed it: Sundaram Tagore is indeed a descendant of the influential Indian poet and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore. The New York-based art historian and gallerist, who owns galleries in New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong, was the first gallerist to focus exclusively on globalisation, assembling a roster of artists from around the world. He is noted for promoting East-West dialogue through his artistic and curatorial contributions, as a result of which he was named one of the 100 most influential Asian Americans in the US by Avenue Magazine in 1999.
