Celebrity Chefs of India

When my daughter plonks herself in front of the television, I know it is time for the Nigella Lawson’s Cooking Show, and eagerly join her on the beanbag to watch the ‘Queen of Food Porn’ rustle up some delicious treats.
Watching cooking shows with her introduced me to a host of other celebrity chefs on different television channels. Some of these shows are so popular that ardent fans make sure that they never miss a single episode of their favourite The Iron Chef and other series. My favourite in the US was Yan Can Cook – it was cute, funny and exotic. Hence it is no surprise that many chefs have acquired celebrity status.
India too has had its share of celebrity chefs who have taken our cuisine international. Whether it is Madhur Jaffrey – a name that is globally synonymous with Indian food or the dimpled Sanjeev Kapoor, whose ease before the camera, has women flocking to his live cooking shows. We were so hooked on to Khana Khazana that we would look forward to the weekend, with notebooks and pens in hand, ready to jot down the recipes as he demonstrated them.
